Customs Union complicates anti-counterfeiting fight

The past two decades have seen Russia emerge as a major market for domestic and imported branded goods. The spectre of counterfeiting has loomed large throughout. The legislative landscape is strong. In fact, the number of remedies and routes of action open to trademark owners is as significant in Russia as they are in other markets. However, enforcement is often lacking. And court opinion on parallell imports and the creation of a new customs zone with COmmonwealth of Independent States' (CIS) neighbours is only going to make enforcment more complex and challenging, not less.
