Summary
Among the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), is SDG no.4. Its aim is to "ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all". Building on a sustainability/human rights-oriented approach to copyright, it is argued that copyright law should strike a proper balance between authors’ interests and the right to education. Indeed, copyright deeply affects the chances of accessing materials, also for educational purposes. Sustainable copyright thus mandates a reform ensuring access to quality educational materials for all—including minority groups—disregarding class, gender, language, geographical location, and disabilities.
