ملخص
The Handbook of Fashion Law, edited by Eleonora Rosati and Irene Calboli, undertakes a novel and much-needed quest to provide a highly detailed analysis of fashion law, emphasising the intricacies of the field and highlighting nuanced approaches that could benefit all stakeholders in the fashion industry. In doing so, and as also stated by the editors, the book fills a ‘substantial gap’ in the literature (p. 1). Primarily from an IP law point of view, the book, in its 41 chapters, addresses various legal issues challenging the fashion industry and suggests legal and business strategies for professionals in the field, including fashion designers, fashion houses, as well as lawyers. Moreover, the book introduces numerous topics in fashion law for further research by legal scholars, demonstrating that it has something to offer to everyone. The first two parts of the book are devoted to the operation of IP law in the fashion industry. The third part considers the role that other areas of law, such as contracts, competition and tax can play. The final part includes numerous unique discussions on the intersection of emerging technologies and fashion. Among these various topics covered in the book, two themes stand out as recurring: namely, the creative potential of imitation and the impacts of sustainability goals and practices in the fashion industry.
