Résumé
Until recently, artists thriving in the golden age of social media viewed technological advancement as simply another foundational pigment on their palette with which they could bring forth unique new artforms and amass dedicated patrons. However, unprecedented developments in artificial intelligence (AI) and widespread public access to AI-generated outputs has exposed the popular AI developer’s practice of training these highly profitable models on unlicensed data and artistic works. This article demystifies the inner workings of generative AI models and responds to the littered backdrop of copyright infringement lawsuits by addressing the urgent need for private action, lest all creative works suffer the same fate of devaluation as that of a song post-Napster. The author proposes a novel digital content library and licensing platform designed to practically balance the ultimate goals of data-hungry AI developers and starving artists both, ensuring that the future is filled with more than just AI-generated happy little trees.
