摘要
Prof. Duncan Matthews and Prof. Paul Torremans’ new edited collection, European Patent Law: The Unified Patent Court and the European Patent Convention, is a fine addition to the burgeoning literature on the new European patent landscape. The book provides an impressive overview of European patent law in the aftermath of the launch of the Unified Patent Court (UPC). The collection features a stellar cast of 39 academics and practitioners including Lord Justice Colin Birss (Court of Appeal of England and Wales) and two judges of the UPC, Judge Sam Granata and Prof. Maximilian Haedicke. There are three parts in the collection: first, a section on existing European patent law, namely the European Patent Convention (EPC) and related patent enforcement in European jurisdictions; a second section on the new system, ie the European Patent with unitary effect and the UPC (launched in June 2023); and a third section reflecting on the co-existence of the old and new systems. Each one is packed with detail and useful commentary.
