      abstract = {Within the framework of the 1986-1987 program of the  International (Paris) Union for the Protection of  Industrial Property, the Committee of Experts on  Biotechnological Inventions and Industrial Property  (hereinafter referred to as the "Committee of Experts")  held its second session in February 1986. It recommended  that the International Bureau of the World Intellectual  Property Organisation (WIPO) should carry out a study of  the existing situation with respect to the legal protection  of biotechnological inventions in each field of  biotechnology where different forms of protection may be  available (process, product and use protection in the field  of plants, animals and microorganisms and in other fields  of biotechnology). The study should include an analysis of  the existing possibilities of protection or lack of  protection and should take into account the most recent  developments in the field of industrial property protection  of biotechnological inventions (new legislation,  jurisprudence or new administrative practices) (see  document BIOT/CE/II/3, paragraph 85 to 89, reproduced in  Annex I to this document).},
