Accordingly, academic scholars have made efforts and great progress in better understanding the patterns of migration flows across countries and their composition and characteristics – for instance, skills and gender composition. In a similar vein, governments in high-income countries have become increasingly aware of the importance of attracting skilled labor abroad to tackle skills’ shortages and scant entrepreneurial talent. Indeed, research has documented that high-skilled immigrants make a strong contribution to their host economies (see Chapter 6). As a result, many governments have introduced selective immigration policies to increase the inward flows of knowledge workers. On their side, many sending economies – not necessarily only developing countries (EU and OECD 2016) – are struggling to retain their highly trained human capital. Further evidence on what attracts and retains knowledge workers is therefore required. 000048788 650_0 $$aKnowledge economy. 000048788 650_0 $$aKnowledge workers. 000048788 650_0 $$aIntellectual capital. 000048788 650_0 $$aEmigration and immigration law. 000048788 650_0 $$aDevelopmental studies programs. 000048788 7001_ $$aFink, Carsten,$$eauthor. 000048788 7001_ $$aMiguelez, Ernest,$$eauthor. 000048788 7001_ $$aRaffo, Julio,$$eauthor. 000048788 77308 $$iThe International Mobility of Inventors: New Evidence and Policy Implications$$aEdited by Carsten Fink and Ernest Miguelez$$dCambridge University Press$$z9781316795774 000048788 85641 $$uhttps://tind.wipo.int/record/42288$$yView eBook 000048788 85641 $$uhttps://www.cambridge.org/core/books/international-mobility-of-talent-and-innovation/determinants-of-the-international-mobility-of-knowledge-workers/056CBFEF4EE5CB537D823DB187A62E9E$$zView this Chapter 000048788 904__ $$aChapter 000048788 942__ $$2ddc$$cEBOOK 000048788 980__ $$aBIB
