ملخص
Innovation is of vast importance for the competitiveness of firms, and intellectual property (IP) rights help innovators to temporarily gain monopoly power from successful innovation activities. Design registration is a form of IP which has been used by firms to add value to a product and to expand the revenue curve over the lifetime of the product together with other forms of IP. It creates a competitive advantage in differentiating a firm from its competitors, enabling entry into new markets and strengthen product marketing. The generation of new designs is a creative activity, for which a significant investment of resources like time, skills and labour are necessary.
