The study shows that patent-intensive firms have a reduced probability of exit, in particular if they are larger and if engaging with complementary investments in R&D and other intangibles. Additional estimates show that firm productivity has been an important transmission channel. Taken together, the results presented in the paper offer evidence-based findings pointing to patents as an important potential factor contributing to firm resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic. Policy insights are discussed. 000047780 542__ $$fCC BY 4.0 WIPO 000047780 650_0 $$aCopyright 000047780 650_4 $$aCOVID-19 000047780 650_0 $$aPatents. 000047780 650_0 $$aManufacturing industries. 000047780 650_4 $$aFirm Resilience 000047780 7102_ $$aWorld Intellectual Property Organization 000047780 830_0 $$aEconomics Working Papers ;$$vno. 73. 000047780 85648 $$3Abstract with links to full text$$uhttps://dx.doi.org/10.34667/tind.46657 000047780 8564_ $$w7a20634d-9135-4a41-839f-f800228b63f3$$s1892790$$fwipo-pub-econstat-wp-72-en-directing-innovation-towards-a-low-carbon-future.pdf$$fwipo-pub-econstat-wp-72-en-directing-innovation-towards-a-low-carbon-future.pdf$$fwipo-pub-econstat-wp-72-en-directing-innovation-towards-a-low-carbon-future.pdf$$uhttps://tind.wipo.int/record/46657/files/wipo-pub-econstat-wp-72-en-directing-innovation-towards-a-low-carbon-future.pdf 000047780 8564_ $$y10.34667/tind.47780$$w51bd1206-b141-4dd0-9fcf-83bf00bb93d9$$s2869270$$fwipo-pub-econstat-wp-73-en-COVID-19-innovative-firms-and-resilience.pdf$$uhttps://tind.wipo.int/record/47780/files/wipo-pub-econstat-wp-73-en-COVID-19-innovative-firms-and-resilience.pdf 000047780 901__ $$aWIPO/PUB/ECONSTAT/WP/73 000047780 902__ $$a47780 _en 000047780 903__ $$aEconomics working papers 000047780 904__ $$aWorking paper 000047780 909__ $$ooai:tind.wipo.int:47780$$pWIPOPUB 000047780 909__ $$ooai:tind.wipo.int:47780$$pWIPOPUB 000047780 909CO $$ooai:tind.wipo.int:47780$$pWIPOPUB 000047780 980__ $$aWIPOPUB$$aERWP
