摘要
A “nationwide blizzard” of copyright infringement lawsuits against users of the peer-to-peer (“P2P”) file sharing protocol BitTorrent has swept the courts in the past few years. Hundreds of thousands of individuals have been sued in these cases mostly by adult entertainment companies seeking to crack down on illegal downloads of their films. What several courts have referred to as an “outbreak of litigation” follows on the heels of the surging popularity in BitTorrent itself. By some measures the leading P2P company has 170 million monthly users, more than Pinterest and Spotify.
