Central to the new paradigm is the fact that creativity, knowledge and access to information are increasingly recognized as powerful engines driving economic growth and promoting development in a globalizing world. The emerging creative economy has become a leading component of economic growth, employment, trade and innovation, and social cohesion in most advanced economies. Unfortunately, however, the large majority of developing countries are not yet able to harness their creative capacity for development. This is a reflection of weaknesses both in domestic policy and in the business environment, and global systemic biases. Nevertheless, the creative economy offers to developing countries a feasible option and new opportunities to leapfrog into emerging high-growth areas of the world economy. This Report is the first to present the perspectives of the United Nations as a whole on this exciting new topic. It provides empirical evidence that the creative industries are among the most dynamic emerging sectors in world trade. It also shows that the interface among creativity, culture, economics and technology, as expressed in the ability to create and circulate intellectual capital, has the potential to generate income, jobs and export earnings while at the same time contributing to social inclusion, cultural diversity and human development. This Report addresses the challenge of assessing the creative economy with a view to informed policy-making by outlining the conceptual, institutional and policy framework in which this economy can flourish."--(Taken from PDF back cover). 000025809 650_0 $$aCreative ability$$xEconomic aspects. 000025809 650_0 $$aIntellectual capital$$xEconomic aspects. 000025809 650_0 $$aCopyright$$xEconomic aspects. 000025809 650_0 $$aIntellectual property$$xEconomic aspects. 000025809 650_0 $$aTechnological innovations$$xEconomic aspects. 000025809 650_0 $$aKnowledge management$$xEconomic aspects. 000025809 650_0 $$aCulture$$xEconomic aspects. 000025809 650_0 $$aCultural industries$$zDeveloping countries. 000025809 650_0 $$aInternational trade$$zDeveloping countries. 000025809 650_0 $$aEconomic development$$zDeveloping countries. 000025809 650_0 $$aArts$$xEconomic aspects. 000025809 650_0 $$aCultural industries. 000025809 650_0 $$aSustainable development. 000025809 650_0 $$aIntellectual property$$zDeveloping countries. 000025809 650_4 $$aInternational trade 000025809 650_4 $$aIntellectual property 000025809 651_0 $$aDeveloping countries$$xCommerce$$xLaw and legislation. 000025809 653__ $$aTechnology 000025809 7001_ $$aBrewka, Barbara. 000025809 7102_ $$aUnited Nations Development Programme. 000025809 7102_ $$aUnited Nations Conference On Trade And Development. 000025809 7102_ $$aPrograma De Las Naciones Unidas Para El Desarrollo. 000025809 7102_ $$aVereinte Nationen.$$bDevelopment Programme. 000025809 7102_ $$aUndp. 000025809 7112_ $$aUnited Nations Conference On Trade And Development. 000025809 830_0 $$aCreative economy report ;$$v2010. 000025809 942__ $$cMON$$jC 386 UNC.C 000025809 952__ $$w2010-05-18$$p2010-0442$$u39937$$bMAIN$$10$$kC 386 UNC.C$$v2010-05-18$$zLibrary$$70$$cLibrary 000025809 980__ $$aBIB 000025809 999__ $$c28176$$d28176
