"In Italy, the piracy of CDs, computer software and video cassettes is a serious public order problem. Broadcasters are hit by the illegal use of encrypted signals; publishers are damaged by the trading of illegal copies of books by "copyshops". The Italian collecting society, SIAE, is investing great human, organisational and financial resources to combat abuses. The SIAE special task force plays an important role in monitoring the market in co-operation with the police, and in promoting legal actions in criminal and civil courts".
