摘要
Annotation This is the sixth in a biennial series designed to provide a broad overview of trends and near-term prospects in the IT industry, an analysis of the growing impact of IT on the economy and society, new developments in selected areas of information technology and descriptions of IT policy directions. It concludes that despite current cyclical difficulties, the trend growth of the ICT sector is strong and it plays an increasingly important role in the economy. Electronic commerce has the potential to transform economic activity but transactions are taking off more slowly than predicted. Software is one of the most rapidly growing sectors in OECD countries but the growing demand for ICT skill raises the prospect of labour shortages. Almost all OECD countries have strategies and action plans for IT and the information society.
