Note
"The Internet is a new and as yet, a relatively unregulated medium for communication. There is a common misconception that because of this apparent lack of legal infrastructure, the Internet may be used and abused by any unscrupulous individual. It is this misconception which has prevented the true expansion of the Information Superhighway. In an attempt to redress this, this article sheds some light on the appropriate law relating to the dissemination of music via the Internet. Likewise, it recognises that European and international measures are being taken to ensure that intellectual property rights are protected regardless of the sphere in which they are presented. Although the article deals specifically with music, its content is nonetheless pertinent to all areas concerning copyright on the Internet. Above all else, it is recognised here that there is a need, particularly within Europe, to encourage the use of the Internet in all appropriate commercial activity. It is our future after all."
