Note
"Since the US Patent Office issued the 'Harvard mouse' patent in 1988, over 100 patents have been issued on transgenic animals, mostly as models for human disease or as bioreactors. Now the production of cloned mice, sheep and cows and the imminent cloning of human beings has pushed public awareness and concern over this new technology to levels that threaten to curtail research and patenting at this scientific and legal frontier."
